PGA picks: Rahm caps brilliant year with Tour Championship win

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Only 30 players will make the final start of the 2016-17 PGA Tour season at the Tour Championship at East Lake this week.

The BMW Championship whittled the remaining players in the FedEx Cup playoffs from 70 to 30, with every man in the field playing for the monstrous purse in Atlanta.

The top-5 on the points list control their own destiny for the prestigious FedEx crown, while the rest of the field would need certain results to go their way to still have a chance.

Here's who to bet on in the final tournament on the calendar.

Favorite to watch (odds less than 20-1)

Jon Rahm

While he hasn't posted a win in any of the FedEx Cup playoff events, Jon Rahm is arguably the hottest golfer on Tour right now. The Spaniard is the only player to finish in the top-5 in each of the three events, and can win the $10-million prize for the FedEx Cup with a win this week in Atlanta. Rahm has shown he's not afraid of the moment, and the 22-year-old bomber will pull off the biggest win of his young career.

Odds to win: 12-1
Top-5 odds: 2-1

2nd tier (odds greater than 20-1)

Sergio Garcia

Sergio Garcia hasn't played in the Tour Championship since 2014, and comes to East Lake ranked 25th in the standings, holding very little chance of winning the FedEx Cup. The Spaniard is as talented as anybody in the field, and the positive with being so far behind is he can go pin-seeking without worry this week. That makes him very dangerous at 28-1.

Odds to win: 28-1
Top-5 odds: 5-1

Long shot (odds greater than 50-1)

Patrick Reed

With two top-6 finishes in his last four events, Patrick Reed's game is in solid form heading to the final tournament of the season. While Reed has yet to win in 2016-17, the 27-year-old will want to make sure his game remains hot heading in to the President's Cup at the end of the month. Reed is a seasoned veteran around the East Lake layout, and at 50-1 he's worth a wager this week.

Odds to win: 50-1
Top-5 odds: 13-2

Super long shot (odds greater than 80-1)

Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele looks to cap a remarkable rookie season with a strong showing at the Tour Championship this week. The 23-year-old blitzed the back-9 at the BMW Championship last week just to qualify for the field, and looks to continue that roll in Atlanta. There's not many players listed higher than 80-1 this week, but Schauffele is certainly the best of the bunch.

Odds to win: 90-1
Top-5 odds: 14-1

Hit this bet, buy a car (odds greater than 125-1)

Brian Harman

Brian Harman just missed out on the President's Cup team, meaning that this week's event is his last of the 2016-17 season. The 30-year-old hasn't displayed the solid form we saw all year as of late, but he's shown that the biggest stages in golf bring out the best in him, with two top-13 showings in the majors this year. At 125-1, he's the best value to find on the betting board this week.

Odds to win: 125-1
Top-5 odds: 18-1
