After various delays, Andrew Wiggins' five-year, $148-million max contract extension is expected to be complete before Saturday, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor told KSTP's Darren Wolfson.

The Timberwolves gather for team media day Friday, with their first training camp practice set for Saturday in San Diego.

The saga of the extension has gone beyond fan hand-wringing over whether the supremely gifted yet still unpolished Wiggins deserves a max contract. In August, Taylor stated he wanted a sit-down with his player before signing off on the deal, and later in the month, news emerged that Wiggins had terminated his agent, Bill Duffy.

Under the collective bargaining agreement, that required Wiggins to wait two weeks after changing agents to sign the contract.

Wiggins, who's been highly hyped since his early high school days in Canada, is approaching a point in his young career where he needs to make a leap. While an athletic and capable scorer, the 22-year-old has much room for improvement on both the defensive end and shooting the ball.
