Newton says he escaped with twisted ankle in win vs. Bills

Jeremy Brevard / USA TODAY Sports

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton told reporters he twisted his ankle during Sunday's 9-3 win against the Buffalo Bills, via ProFootballTalk.

Newton briefly left the game after getting sacked by two Bills defenders, and headed to the medical tent but was cleared to return shortly after, avoiding a serious injury.

The former MVP finished 20-of-32 for 228 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Newton also rushed for 27 yards on five carries.

It wasn't all good news for the Panthers, however. Greg Olsen said he broke his foot after being ruled out at halftime. Olsen was initially deemed probable to return.
