Suspended Florida players unlikely to return vs. Tennessee

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

It appears Florida will be shorthanded yet again this weekend, as the nine players who were suspended for the season-opening loss to Michigan are unlikely to play against Tennessee.

Head coach Jim McElwain told Mark Long of the Associated Press there was no update on the suspended players, meaning it's almost a sure thing they miss the rivalry game against the Volunteers.

Antonio Callaway and Jordan Scarlett highlight the list of suspended Gators who were banned for misusing school funds. The leading receiver and running back from last season, respectively, were sorely missed in the loss to the Wolverines on Sept. 3, as the Gators' offense sputtered to just 192 total yards.

Florida's Week 2 game against Northern Colorado was canceled due to Hurricane Irma, although it's unclear if missing that contest would have satisfied the terms of the players' suspensions.
