Arians hoping to get Johnson 'back by Christmas'

Bruce Arians is not as optimistic about David Johnson's return from wrist surgery as some have reported.

Johnson was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and is reportedly expected to miss 8-to-12 weeks, but Arians has his eyes on a Week 16 comeback for his star running back.

The Arizona Cardinals head coach told Sirius XM NFL radio that he is "hoping we can get (Johnson) back by Christmas."

The team plays the New York Giants at home on Christmas eve in Week 16.

Johnson had 91 total yards Sunday before being injured and led the league in all-purpose yards and touchdowns in 2016.

Chris Johnson was re-signed in a corresponding move. He had played with the Cardinals the last two seasons and was released at the end of training camp; a move Arians called "the toughest cut to make."
