Saints' Peterson gets warm reception during 1st game back in Minnesota

Brace Hemmelgarn / USA Today Sports

New Orleans Saints running back Adrian Peterson was met with cheers during Monday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, from a crowd that adored him during his first 10 years of his career.

The Vikings elected not to exercise Peterson's option in February. The veteran then signed a two-year, $7-million contract with the Saints in April.

The seven-time Pro Bowler lined up as New Orleans' starting running back on Monday, and rushed for nine yards on the first play from scrimmage.

During warmups, Peterson also received faint applause from the home crowd.

The 32-year-old holds several Vikings franchise records, winning three rushing titles after being selected seventh overall in 2007.
