NFL appeals preliminary injunction granted to Elliott

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL formally filed an appeal Monday of the preliminary injunction granted to Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott last week.

Elliott was granted a temporary restraining order by U.S. District Court Judge Amos Mazzant III on Friday, barring the league from imposing a six-game suspension on the player and allowing him to participate in the Cowboys' 19-3 victory on Sunday night.

Elliott finished the game with 24 carries for 104 yards.

The appeal was an expected measure as the battle between league and player is set to drag out before the courts.
