Report: Melo still in touch with Knicks teammates

Carmelo Anthony is reaching out to his fellow New York Knicks while he's still a member of the team.

The veteran forward has been keeping tabs on teammates who are participating in EuroBasket 2017 - including Kristaps Porzingis, Mindaugus Kuzminskas, and Willy Hernangomez - and even sending them texts of encouragement, sources told international reporter David Pick.

Anthony's continued to invest in the team - he's also been working out with rookie Frank Ntilikina and other Knicks - even though he's not expected to stick around for much longer. Earlier this offseason, the 33-year-old informed his hometown club he doesn't want to return, and the Knicks have hinted he's not part of their future.

The 10-time All-Star has a no-trade clause he'd reportedly waive to join the Houston Rockets, but it's believed trade talks stalled because the club doesn't have the assets New York wants in return for its leader.

The Knicks apparently hope Melo will expand his list of acceptable destinations with teams like the Portland Trail Blazers coveting the 14-year pro, who has career averages of 24.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest.

There's also the possibility the Knicks and Rockets could bring in a third team to help send Anthony to Clutch City, with the Milwaukee Bucks reportedly emerging as a candidate. New York could also wait until December when players who inked deals this summer are eligible to be dealt.

But for now, Anthony remains on the roster with training camp tipping off later in September. The fact he hasn't cut ties with his teammates should make that less awkward if it happens.
