Liverpool star Sadio Mane took to social media to issue an apology to Ederson after the Manchester City goalkeeper came out on the wrong end of a nasty collision at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The pair were involved in a scary incident during City's 5-0 win when Mane's attempt to reach the ball resulted in a boot to the Brazilian's face.

Ederson was eventually removed from the game after receiving treatment, while Mane was issued a straight red card.

Mane posted a picture of Ederson on his Instagram and wished the net-minder a swift return.

"I hope and wish Ederson a quick recovery," Mane said.

"I am so sorry he was hurt during our accidental collision on the pitch and am sorry for him that he could not complete the match because of it. I pray he heals fast and is back playing very soon!"

Ederson, who returned to the Etihad before the match ended after receiving further treatment at City's training facility, confirmed he is doing well after escaping the incident without a serious injury.
