The Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive end Stephon Tuitt to a new six-year contract on Saturday, an extension worth $61 million, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, citing a source.

The 2014 second-round draft pick was scheduled to hit free agency in 2018.

Tuitt has played and started in 14 games the past two seasons. In three years, he's racked up 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

The deal comes a day before the Steelers' first game of the 2017 season.
