McQueary to police: Paterno admitted knowledge of earlier abuse claim

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

According to a police report obtained by CNN, there is evidence Joe Paterno knew of the abuse claims against Jerry Sandusky prior to 2001.

Former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary allegedly told Paterno he witnessed an incident between Sandusky and a young boy. According to the police report which was filed after Sandusky's arrest, Paterno replied to McQueary in 2001 saying this "was the second complaint of this nature he had received."

Another report in May of 2016 claimed Paterno was also told of abuse in 1976.

Sandusky is currently serving at least 30 years in prison for abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period.
