Following a summer in which Manchester United was reportedly close to completing a deal for Ivan Perisic, the Croatian international committed his future to Inter on Friday by signing a new contract.

Inter confirmed that Perisic - who joined the Italian side from VfL Wolfsburg in 2015 - put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him in Milan until 2022.

The new contract should end speculation for the time being over a potential move away from the San Siro after rampant rumours throughout the summer linked Perisic with a move to Manchester United.

In June, it looked as though a transfer to Old Trafford was imminent with a report suggesting Inter accepted United's €52-million offer. The bid was apparently short of Inter's valuation, as manager Luciano Spaletti said the club would allow him to leave if the price was right.

As the transfer deadline approached, there was increased speculation that a move to United wouldn't materialize, with Spalletti revealing last month that Perisic is "determined" to remain with Inter.

Since joining Inter, Perisic, 28, has found the back of the net 20 times in 81 appearances.
