Dodgers clinch home field throughout NL playoffs with 101st win

Gary A. Vasquez / USA TODAY Sports

What seemed inevitable in mid-summer came to fruition Tuesday night, as the Los Angeles Dodgers finally clinched home-field advantage through the National League Championship Series with a 9-2 win over the San Diego Padres.

The team's 101st victory of the season, combined with the Washington Nationals' loss to the lowly Phillies earlier in the evening, sealed the deal.

A three-run Corey Seager homer in the seventh inning put the Dodgers up 9-2, quashing any hopes of a Padres comeback and locking up the best record in the National League for Dave Roberts' team.

The Cleveland Indians (98-59) still have an outside shot at catching the Dodgers for potential home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but time is running out.
