Concern for Oregon, Oregon State home games grows due to wildfires

Oregon and Oregon State are both scheduled to play at home this coming weekend, but those games could be in jeopardy due to ongoing wildfires in the state.

There is a growing concern regarding the air quality surrounding the Willamette Valley region, and the increase in smoke and ash in the atmosphere has caused both universities to take notice, according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.

The Pac-12 conference also issued an official statement of awareness, saying it is in consistent communication with both universities and that appropriate action will be taken if necessary.

"Based upon information provided by air protection agency, athletic departments and expert health and safety advice of university medical professionals, a decision will be made on whether an event may be postponed or rescheduled if it is too dangerous to play, the statement reads.

"The universities playing the games make the ultimate decision and that will be made sometime Saturday morning. Depending on the situation, an event may be postponed or rescheduled if it is too dangerous to play."

Oregon is scheduled to host Nebraska on Saturday, while Oregon State is preparing to face off against Minnesota.
