Oklahoma's Mayfield: 'Embarrassing' to hear OSU fans sing on our field last year

Baker Mayfield found out last season just how well Ohio State fans travel.

The Oklahoma quarterback discussed last year's loss to the Buckeyes after practice Monday, as the two teams prepare to meet in a rematch this week in Columbus. Mayfield remembers the 45-24 defeat well, and was embarrassed that the vocal road Buckeye fans took over the stadium.

"Everybody that was here for last year's huge loss definitely remembers that. And we talked about it during camp," Mayfield said, according to Eric Bailey of Tulsa World. "We've never been here for a team to sing their fight song on our field. Quite frankly it's just embarrassing. It's embarrassing. We let down our fans, our coaches and everybody that supports our program to allow them to sing O-H-I-O on our field. And their fans were louder than ours and rightfully so. They had more reason to be louder. But, it's different year. Obviously we're still thinking about that and it hurts. But we've still gotta go play football."

The Sooners will get their chance at revenge Saturday, after coming off an easy win in their opening game against UTEP. Oklahoma will be hoping for a victory and the opportunity for its fans to return the favor to Ohio State.
