Indiana loses leading receiver Westbrook for season with torn ACL

Aaron Doster / USA TODAY Sports

Indiana's receiving corps has a serious hole to fill, as last year's leading receiver, Nick Westbrook, is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL on the opening kickoff of Thursday's game against Ohio State.

Head coach Tom Allen confirmed the injury to The Indianapolis Star on Monday. Westbrook underwent an MRI on Saturday and the results confirmed the seriousness of the injury.

"As we've shared with our team, sometimes life's not fair," Allen said. "Things happen, it's tough. He's got a good attitude about it. He knows that it's a challenge he has to overcome."

Westbrook reeled in 54 passes for 995 yards and six touchdowns last season. The Hoosiers will look to the likes of Simmie Cobbs Jr., Donovan Hale, and Luke Timian to step up and produce in Westbrook's absence.
