D-Backs' historic streak without trailing ends just shy of 98 innings
During a red-hot streak of 12 straight victories, the Arizona Diamondbacks were chasing another historic streak - the most consecutive innings without ever trailing. That run ended for Arizona at 97 2/3 innings on Wednesday.
Entering Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Diamondbacks were just three innings away from extending the streak into triple digits. After Cody Bellinger hit an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom half of the first inning, though, the Diamondbacks' historic stretch ended as the third longest of all time.

The Diamondbacks had outscored their opponents 76-26 over their 12-game win streak. The last time the team trailed was in the second game of their active win streak, in the third inning of their Aug. 25 game against the San Francisco Giants.
Despite trailing the first-place Dodgers by 11 1/2 games entering Wednesday, the Diamondbacks had already clinched the season series against the division rival. The D-Backs have claimed victory in 10 of their 19 meetings.
After defeating Los Angeles 3-1 Wednesday to win a franchise-record 13th consecutive game, the Diamondbacks now hold the first-place National League wild-card spot by 7 1/2 games over the Colorado Rockies. If everything stayed the same, the D-Backs and Rockies would face each other in a one-game playoff for the right to play against the Dodgers in the NLDS.
