Texas A&M's Starkel leaves game vs. UCLA with apparent ankle injury

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M brought the pain for UCLA in their season opener Sunday, but it may not have come without a cost, as quarterback Nick Starkel was forced to leave the game with an apparent ankle injury.

Starkel had to be helped to the sideline after being tackled on a three-yard run that led to an Aggies field goal. The redshirt freshman was seen in visible pain on his way to the trainer's table, according to Travis L. Brown of My Aggie Nation.

Starkel was taken to the locker room following his exit, according to Brown, and it was later confirmed during the live broadcast that he left the stadium entirely. However, Starkel returned to the sidelines later on crutches.

Fellow freshman Kellen Mond, came on to replace Starkel on the subsequent drive. Prior to leaving the game, Starkel completed 6-of-13 passes for 62 yards.
