McElwain on Florida's loss: 'Take your whooping, plain and simple'

Florida's 2017 season began with an ugly 33-17 beatdown by Michigan, with the offensive problems that have plagued the Gators in recent years flaring up yet again.

Jim McElwain was brought in by the program before the 2015 season to fix the struggling offense, but with just 182 total yards against the Wolverines, it appears that hasn't happened.

McElwain was left to face the music in the postgame press conference, and the head coach didn't mince words when asked about the contest.

"Take your whooping, plain and simple," McElwain said, as per Chris Vannini of The Athletic. "I'm taking it."

The loss ended Florida's streak of 27 straight season-opening wins, and will definitely leave the Gators faithful questioning whether McElwain is the man to fix their offensive woes.

His first two seasons produced the nation's 99th and 108th-ranked offenses respectively, and with no clear starter at the quarterback position, it doesn't appear those numbers will differ greatly in 2017.
