Report: Montreal officials contacted Astros offering to host series

In an effort to help the Houston Astros amid torrential flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, Montreal officials reached out to the team with an offer to host their series against the Texas Rangers before it was subsequently moved to Tropicana Field, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Olympic Stadium has been the host of spring training and preseason games involving the Toronto Blue Jays since 2014. Most recently, the Blue Jays played the Pittsburgh Pirates in a two-game series on March 31 and April 1, an event that averaged 47,691 fans.

The Astros relocated their series against the Rangers to St. Petersburg and were expected to play the New York Mets at The Trop as well, but will return home instead, the team announced on Wednesday.

"We feel that the Astros playing this weekend will provide a much-needed boost for our city," Houston mayor Sylvester Turner said in a statement, per USA Today Sports. "With all of the difficulties that many of our citizens are facing, the games will provide an opportunity for families to start returning to some aspect of normal life."
