Browns very close to naming rookie Kizer as starter

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson said he's very close to naming rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer as the team's starter, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Jackson said he'll have to watch the tape of Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Kizer has the skill set he's looking for.

Kizer started the team's pivotal third preseason game, playing mostly with the first-team offense against the Buccaneers' first-team defense. He went just 6-for-18 through the air with one interception but totaled 93 yards. He led the team on one red-zone drive which finished with a field goal.
