Oregon State's Andersen bemoans 'embarrassing' season-opener

If the first game of 2017 - an ugly 58-27 loss to Colorado State - was any indication, Gary Andersen's third season as the head coach at Oregon State could be a long one.

"This is uncharted waters for me, to be honest with you," Andersen told reporters after the 31-point defeat to begin the season, according to Gina Mizell of the Oregonian. "That's embarrassing."

Oregon State started the contest on a positive note, scoring the first FBS touchdown of the new season, but it went south from there. The Beavers were outscored 34-7 after halftime, and their attempt to climb back to national relevance took a major blow right off the bat.

"I'm not used to getting beat physically like that," added Andersen, whose team surrendered 525 total yards of offense to the Rams. "They pretty much pounded us in the second half."

Despite going 6-18 over his first two seasons on the job, Oregon State inked Andersen to a contract extension in December that runs through the 2021 season.

The Beavers play their home-opener Sept. 2 versus Portland State.
