Mickelson thinks he has something to offer U.S. Presidents Cup team
Phil Mickelson believes he has something to offer Steve Stricker's U.S. Presidents Cup team.
With two events left until the Sept. 4th announcement for both sides, Mickelson feels his game is beginning to improve in time for Stricker to add him to the American squad.
"Like I said, I'm going to see how these next two weeks go," Mickelson told Alex Myers of Golf Digest. "I'm very optimistic on the way I'm playing, but the scores are not reflecting that yet. If the scores start to reflect that, I think I'll be able to bring something to the table."
Mickelson hasn’t missed a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup competition since 1993, but sits 20th in the United States standings and is aware that other players are just as deserving of a selection.
"If there are other players that bring more to the table and are playing better, then they need to be on it," said Mickelson. "I've had the opportunity to be a part of a number of them, so it would be great for others to do that, too. But I'm not quite ready to pass that on yet. I want to be on the team."
Liberty National Golf Club will host the biennial event at the end of September following the FedEx Cup playoffs.
