Orioles' Britton to undergo MRI on knee Thursday

Zach Britton's day just went from bad to worse.

Shortly after blowing his first save opportunity in nearly two years on Wednesday afternoon, Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter announced to reporters that Britton will undergo an MRI on his left knee Thursday, according to Peter Schmuck of the Baltimore Sun.

Showalter said that Britton's been dealing with knee soreness, and that prompted the decision to send him for an MRI.

Britton told Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com that he doesn't believe the knee injury has impacted his pitching.

Britton was all but untouchable closing games for the Orioles one year ago, but has struggled to regain his form during an injury-plagued 2017. Since returning from the disabled list on July 5, the 29-year-old has posted a 3.94 ERA in 16 innings (not including Wednesday's game).

On Wednesday, Britton allowed two runs in the ninth inning for his first blown save in 60 chances, ending his American League-record streak of consecutive saves.
