Report: Wiggins' new deal with Wolves not in jeopardy after firing agent

Andrew Wiggins severing his ties with Bill Duffy and BDA Sports immediately after the agent negotiated his max contract will not put the extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves in jeopardy, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Associated Press.

Duffy, a longtime agent with clients such as Mike Conley and Zach LaVine, said Tuesday that Wiggins had cut ties with his company. The timing was especially curious given that Duffy had just finished negotiating a five-year, $148-million max extension for Wiggins.

As a result, the contract remains unsigned.

According to rules in the collective bargaining agreement, a player must wait two weeks to sign such a contract after changing agents. Duffy should still stand to collect commission on the deal, however, given that NBPA guidelines insist agents are compensated for contracts they negotiate.

Krawczynski reports that some in the Wolves organization are "puzzled" by the developments, and added that a much-discussed meeting between Wiggins and owner Glen Taylor hasn't happened yet.
