The Philadelphia Phillies will be without their red-hot center fielder for the next while, as Odubel Herrera was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

The 25-year-old played through discomfort Monday, when he collected a pair of hits in a 7-4 loss to the San Diego Padres, but hasn't taken the field since, getting omitted from the lineup three days in a row before being placed on the DL ahead of Friday's game in San Francisco.

"It hurts," Herrera told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki on Tuesday. "Pain."

Until the discomfort relents, his impressive hitting streak will be on hold. Herrera, an All-Star for the first time last year, has recorded a base hit in each of his last 17 contests, going 25-for-66 (.379) with three homers, four doubles, two triples, two stolen bases, and a 1.067 OPS over that span.

Since the All-Star break, Herrera has been one of the game's top players, managing 2.2 WAR - tying him with Giancarlo Stanton and Charlie Blackmon for first in the majors - with a 1.142 OPS over his last 29 games.
