UEFA is cracking down after crowd trouble marred the first leg of Everton's tie against HNK Hajduk Split in the Europa League's third qualifying round.

Disciplinary proceedings were opened by UEFA on Friday, as Everton and Split were charged for throwing of objects, while the Croatian club was also charged with crowd disturbances, field invasions by supporters, and acts of damages.

After Michael Keane scored his first goal for Everton in the 30th minute, Split's supporters, sitting in the Bullens Road stand, hurled objects into the adjacent Park End and attempted to break out of the corner where they were standing. It took five minutes for stewards to restore order and allow the game to continue, during which time referee Ivan Kurzliak instructed players to leave the pitch.

Everton won the match 2-0, and the second leg is scheduled for Aug. 24.

The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.
