Astros GM setting expectations of making another trade 'very low'

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow isn't optimistic the team will make another trade this month despite an ongoing desire to improve the pitching staff.

"We continue to monitor the trade waiver wire to see if there's players of interest that could be an upgrade, but right now I would set out expectations very low that anything happens between now and the end of the month," Luhnow told SportsTalk 790.

The Astros acquired left-hander reliever Francisco Liriano prior to the non-waiver trade deadline, and dealt for right-handed reliever Tyler Clippard on Sunday.

Houston reportedly also had discussions with the Detroit Tigers involving a potential trade for right-hander Justin Verlander, though talks have been said to have subsided in recent days. The Astros were also reportedly interested in adding another left-handed reliever.
