Nearly nine months after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, Colorado Rockies right-hander Chad Bettis made his long-awaited season debut Monday, after undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and a lengthy rehab process to get back on that Coors Field mound.
So, naturally, his defense wasn't going to let him down in his first start back.
After his blooper into shallow left field snuck past a diving Gerardo Parra to kick off the top of the first, Atlanta Braves center fielder Ender Inciarte had designs on an inside-the-park home run, but the Rockies were able to cut Inciarte down at the plate thanks to a sensational relay throw from shortstop Trevor Story and deft tag from catcher Jonathan Lucroy.
