West Virginia has suspended receiver Marcus Simms for the season opener against Virginia Tech after his DUI arrest on the weekend, the team announced Monday.

"We have very high expectations for our student-athletes," head coach Dana Holgorsen said. "And they know that how we represent this university is more important than their contribution on the field. While every case is unique and discipline imposed is based on varying factors, this suspension is warranted. It is my hope that Marcus works hard to fulfill his obligation as a member of our community and as a member of our football program."

Holgorsen added that Simms must meet certain requirements before he can be reinstated.

Simms was charged with DUI and driving with a revoked license after he was pulled over for a broken tail light. The sophomore grabbed a touchdown to go along with six catches in 2016.
