Former Alabama head coach Gene Stallings suffered his second stroke in three months Monday at Dallas-Fort Worth airport while awaiting a flight, former Auburn head coach Pat Dye confirmed to Mark Heim of Al.com.

Stallings had been waiting for a flight to take him to the Legendary Coaching Events, "An Evening with Legendary Coaches Pat Dye and Gene Stallings."

Dye confirmed Stallings suffered the stroke "around 10:30 or 11 a.m.," but insisted that the 82-year-old was in good spirits after being taken to hospital. Dye says Stallings is insisting he reschedule the Legendary Coaches Event, which was promptly canceled upon word of his stroke.

Lynn Huggins, Dye's personal assistant, confirmed Stallings is stable and communicating, according to Heim.

Stallings had previously suffered a minor stroke on May 21; however, the severity was such that it did not keep him from checking himself into the hospital on his own volition.

Stallings led Alabama to the 1992 national championship, and accrued an overall record of 70-16-1 as head coach from 1990-96.
