Spalletti: United target Ivan Perisic 'determined to stay'

Manchester United's pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic appears to be over.

The Croatian international was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for a majority of the summer, with reports indicating that Inter was holding out for an offer worth €55 million after rejecting United's €45-million bid.

Talks between the clubs picked up steam in early July, but have fizzled out in recent weeks.

Now, it appears that United's opportunity to lure Perisic to England has passed, as Inter manager Luciano Spalletti insisted that the 29-year-old is eager to prolong his career in Milan.

"Perisic is determined to stay," he said, according to Ben Gladwell of ESPN FC.

"There was a moment (when he considered moving), but then he spoke like a footballer who is interested in doing the right thing for his professionalism and he drew a conclusion."

News of Perisic's apparent change of heart, after he was seemingly attempting to engineer a move away, likely won't have too much of an impact on a United squad that could feature Anthony Martial more frequently down the left wing that the Croatian would have occupied.

The French international was given reassurances over his role this term by manager Jose Mourinho, and even managed to find the back of the net during United's opening-day thrashing of West Ham United.
