Portuguese international William Carvalho has reportedly arrived in London, and, after years of speculation linking the player with a Premier League move, it appears as if West Ham is the destination.

After having an initial bid for the 25-year-old midfielder rejected, BBC Sports' Simon Stone reports that the Irons have submitted an improved £30-million offer for the Euro 2016 winner.

That would smash the club's previous £20-million record signing of Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City, and for Slaven Bilic's lot, the addition of the robust Angola-born talent would be an immediate upgrade.

A deep-lying central midfielder who is content to carry the ball into attacking holes or play a traditional defensive gig, Carvalho, 25, would provide the Irons a consistent presence in the middle of the park a season after platooning the likes of Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang, Cheikhou Kouyate, and Edimilson Fernandes.

For a side that appeared second-best all over the park in a one-sided 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, Carvalho's addition would also add some much-needed muscle in the midfield.

The move would mark the sixth significant summer signing for the east London side, joining Arnautovic, Chicharito, Sead Haksabanovic, Joe Hart, and Pablo Zabaleta at the London Stadium.
