5 best debuts from the Premier League's opening weekend

Few things in football have the ability to ease a player into a new environment like scoring a debut goal.

While there were a number of impressive performances to choose from during the Premier League's opening weekend, here are five debutants who made the largest impact on Matchday 1.

Alvaro Morata - Chelsea

After Alvaro Morata found himself as the subject of criticism following his first pre-season appearance after moving to Chelsea from Real Madrid for a reported £58-million fee, the Spanish striker silenced his critics within 10 minutes of his Premier League debut.

As Chelsea trailed 3-0 and frustrations at Stamford Bridge intensified, Morata provided a glimmer of hope when he got on the end of Willian's cross into the Burnley box and bulged the back of the net with a flicked header to put the Blues on the scoresheet. He also set up David Luiz's tally later in the half.

A disallowed goal prevented instant club legend status as 10-man Chelsea searched for an equaliser, but, overall, Morata's early contribution will suffice as he attempts to justify the hefty price tag that will almost certainly be broached every time he has a poor showing.

Alexandre Lacazette - Arsenal

Unlike city rival Chelsea, it was a dream start to the season for Arsenal and its club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette joined an exclusive club when his header beat Leicester City 'keeper Kasper Schmeichel just 90 seconds into the start of the 2017-18 campaign, as the Frenchman became the fifth Arsenal player to score on his Premier League debut under Arsene Wenger.

Mohamed Salah - Liverpool

Mohamed Salah lived up to the billing during a debut that saw the Liverpool winger make an immediate impact with a goal in an otherwise disappointing 3-3 draw against Watford.

It wasn't pretty, but Reds supporters won't mind how Salah converted his first goal in a Liverpool shirt, as the crafty Egyptian got on the end of Roberto Firmino's chip to score from close range.

But it was his display up the wing that has likely struck fear into Premier League defenders who will struggle to match the pace and creativity that Salah has become notorious for.

Steve Mounie - Huddersfield

While the fee Huddersfield Town paid to acquire club-record signing Steve Mounie pales in comparison to the other players featured on this list, the Beninese forward scored a brace to temporarily fire his team to the top of the Premier League.

While Huddersfield only led the pack for 24 hours on goal difference, it was enough to leave a lasting impression on the 22-year-old, who was eager to capture the moment the Terriers led England's top flight.

"It is crazy, I will take a picture of the table," Mounie told reporters, according to the BBC.

The £12-million summer arrival is well on his way to matching the 11 goals he scored for French side Montpellier last term as his two goals inspired Huddersfield to a memorable 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Romelu Lukaku - Manchester United

The most expensive of the lot, Romelu Lukaku picked up where he left off last season with Everton by finding the back of the net twice to bring Manchester United fans to their feet at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It was business as usual for the Belgian forward as he opened the scoring against West Ham with a tidy finish past Joe Hart to mark the third time he's managed to score on his debut with a new club.

Lukaku's brace will be a breath of fresh air for manager Jose Mourinho, who struggled last season to find a forward capable of taking some pressure off Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose 17 league goals were more than triple United's next highest tally.
