McIlroy: 'Looking forward to 2018'

Rory McIlroy came into the season's final major as one of the favorites with Jordan Spieth to claim the 99th PGA Championship, but it's been a battle for both at Quail Hollow.

After another tough round Saturday, in which he posted a 2-over-par 73, McIlroy will simply be playing for pride in the final round Sunday.

"I want to sign off on a positive note. It hasn't been the week that I wanted," McIlroy told Amanda Balionis of TNT. "If I can finish. ... I think the way the leaderboard is, if I can finish in the red tomorrow - so 1-under for the tournament - that could be a top 10. It's a hollow victory in some ways."

It's been an up-and-down year for the Northern Irishman both on and off the golf course. McIlroy has battled a rib injury since January, signed a lucrative endorsement deal with TaylorMade, got married, fired his longtime caddie, and has no wins worldwide since last September.

"Looking forward to 2018," McIIroy said.
