The illustrious career of Usain Bolt finished in flames Saturday, as the eight-time Olympic gold medalist failed to finish his final race.

Bolt pulled up lame with an apparent injury in the final leg of the 4x100 meter relay at the World Championships, with Great Britain earning the gold on home soil.

The hype leading up to Bolt's final pro race was palpable, but following back-to-back Saturdays where he failed to earn even a silver medal, sports fans around the world are assuredly feeling a sense of what could have been.

Of course, Bolt's legacy as the greatest sprinter of all-time is unquestionable. However, it would have been extra special to send him off into the sunset the way he entered the sport - as a champion.

The British team finished in first with a time of 37.47 seconds, ahead of the Americans, who ran 37.52. Japan rounded out the podium with a time of 38.04.
