Klopp admits he has little say over Coutinho's future

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted Saturday he's powerless to stop the club from selling Philippe Coutinho if ownership team Fenway Sports Group (FSG) decides to cash in.

Coutinho requested a transfer from Anfield on Friday, according to British media, following Barcelona's attempts to recruit the Brazilian playmaker. Bids worth £72 million and £90 million failed to turn Liverpool's head, but a third in excess of £100 million is reportedly expected to arrive soon.

FSG emphasised in a statement it won't consider any offer for Coutinho this summer. If that hard-line stance changes, Klopp said he'll have to live with the decision.

Currently, Liverpool's owner and transfer committee, led by sporting director Michael Edwards, cast the last vote.

"As a manager of a football club, I have bosses that decide, for example, just in general, if we sell a player or we don't sell a player. Then I have to accept it," the German boss said, courtesy of Reuters.

"If they don't sell him, then I am not involved any more. I'm responsible for all of our players, not just one or two or three, but all of them.

"I can't say anything about it. The only thing is I work with the players I have. That's what I'm always doing."

Although Coutinho has made his intentions clear by requesting a move, Klopp doesn't believe the club is in a weaker position.

"I don't think (it changes anything). It was pretty clear what the club said about it. That's all," he said.

Coutinho missed Saturday's frantic 3-3 draw with Watford due to a back injury. Despite all the speculation, he has continued to report to Liverpool's training ground to receive treatment.
