DJ's slick move on Friday allows Saturday sleep-in for Day

Jason Day can thank Dustin Johnson for getting to sleep in on Saturday at the 99th PGA Championship.

After a lengthy weather delay on Friday afternoon, many of the later groups were sprinting to the finish line so they didn't have to return Saturday morning to complete their rounds. Day, Johnson, and Henrik Stenson were one of those groups racing around Quail Hollow fearing a horn would blow to stop play.

Under the rules of golf, if any player in a group tees off a hole, the players have the right to finish the hole if they desire. So, while walking up the 17th hole, the trio came up with a plan to prevent an early rise to conclude the second round.

"We were walking up (on 17), and we were talking about like if we can get a tee shot on 18, we could finish the round," Day told Larry Fine of Reuters. "And DJ is like, 'I'll do it.'"

The Aussie - who trails the leaders by two entering the third round - ran and gave the world No. 1 a hug en route to a par a round of 66.

"That's the biggest or most clutch thing I've ever seen anyone do for me," said the 2015 PGA champ. "I had to give him a hug for it. He was happy, as well. Obviously to be able to finish and not have to wake up at 5:30 (a.m.) tomorrow, get some rest."

Day will tee off in the final round Saturday at 2 p.m. ET with Kevin Kisner and Hideki Matsuyama.
