Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen experienced an unfortunate and unexplained first during Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

While taking his lead off second base in the top of the third inning, McCutchen began grimacing in pain and was eventually forced to leave the game with left knee soreness.

Following Pittsburgh's 4-2 win over the Blue Jays, McCutchen said he was optimistic about his health, but was surprised with the non-contact injury.

"That was the weirdest thing ever. I really can't explain it. Something I've really never felt," McCutchen said, according to Adam Berry of MLB.com. "That's weird. Never went away, then it went away. Hopefully I'll wake up tomorrow, ready to go."

Despite feeling better and taking batting practice, McCutchen was held out of the lineup Saturday.
