Tottenham's Rose demands signings: 'Not players you have to Google'
Tottenham left-back Danny Rose accused the north London club of paying him less than what he's worth and demanded more signings from chairman Daniel Levy on Wednesday.
A knee injury midway through the 2016-17 season forced Rose to reconsider his priorities and evaluate his current position at Spurs.
Although he's not asking for a transfer, he told The Sun's Dave Kidd he's frustrated with the way the club's board has done business and questions his side's depth.
Despite shipping Kyle Walker to Manchester City for a reported £50 million - one of the largest fees for a defender - Tottenham has yet to spend a dime.
"As a Tottenham player, I'd love to see more signings. It would lift me seeing a top player come through the door," the 27-year-old said. "I've seen a couple of players previously saying, 'We don't need a top signing or signings.' But I am sorry, I am not singing off the same hymn sheet on that one."
Bringing in someone like Ross Barkley, who's entering the final year of his contract with Everton, would represent a "huge boost" for Rose.
"I am not saying buy 10 players," he added. "I'd love to see two or three - and not players you have to Google and say, 'Who's that?' I mean well-known players."
His other concern is his salary. Having signed a new five-year contract last September, Rose is on a reported £65,000-a-week deal. It's not an insignificant amount of money, but compared to the six-figure sums the Premier League's top earners pull in, the Yorkshire native suggested he's undervalued.
"If I get to (the) levels I reached last season - and this goes out to everybody - I will make sure I get what I am worth. I don't know how much longer I might have at this level," Rose said. "I'm not going to be stupid enough not to try and get the most out of it - medals, trophies, and salary.
"Anyone who thinks this is primarily for money, that is not the case. But I know what I am worth. As with everyone else in my team, in my opinion, I am worth more than I am getting."
Rose is likely to miss Tottenham's Premier League opener away to Newcastle on Sunday as he recovers from knee surgery.
