Report: Brewers remain interested in Tigers' Kinsler

Sitting just 1 1/2 games out the playoffs and in desperate need of second base help, the Milwaukee Brewers remain interested in acquiring Detroit Tigers veteran Ian Kinsler, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The Brewers reportedly had trade discussions with the Tigers last month about acquiring Kinsler, who has since been placed on revocable trade waivers, sources told Rosenthal.

Kinsler has a 10-team no-trade clause that is said to include the Brewers, though he'd be willing to waive it if promised a contract extension.

"If one of the 10 teams happens to call and wants to talk about it, we’re open to talking about it," Kinsler's agent said this offseason. "(But) they’re going to have to extend him for us to waive the no-trade."

Kinsler's in the final season of a five-year contract worth $75 million that he signed in 2013, which also includes a $10-million team option with a $5-million buyout for 2018.

He's struggled at the plate this year, batting .245/.324/.388 in 94 games, but his defensive skills have yet to wither. He leads all second basemen with nine defensive runs saved.

Milwaukee has received an NL-worst -0.2 WAR from its second base position this season. After a breakout 2016 campaign, Jonathan Villar has been horrendous, while backup Eric Sogard has been slightly above replacement level, so Kinsler would be a major improvement for a team with playoff aspirations.
