Villarreal's Soldado set for Fenerbahce switch

Villarreal striker Roberto Soldado is on the verge of joining Istanbul giant Fenerbahce.

The Yellow Submarine confirmed the news with a statement on its website Wednesday, adding that the 32-year-old Valencia local's move awaits an agreement on personal terms and the completion of a successful medical.

A move to Turkey will mark the Spaniard's fourth club in seven years after a transfer from hometown Valencia to Tottenham in 2013 resulted in undeniable disaster, as the forward failed to find his feet in England's top flight.

With the emergence last season of Italian Nicola Sansone alongside Cedric Bakambu in attack, Soldado's usage dropped significantly when compared to his debut season at the Estadio de la Ceramica. After making 43 appearances in all competitions during the 2015-16 campaign, Soldado featured just a dozen times last year whilst hampered by a long-term cruciate ligament rupture.

Villarreal also boosted its forward line with the addition of Enes Unal on a €14-million transfer from Manchester City, making the Real Madrid academy product surplus to requirements.

From the perspective of 19-time Turkish champ Fenerbahce, the club could use the cover up top, with Nigerian Emmanuel Emenike moving to Olympiacos in the summer.
