Notre Dame's Wimbush can't wait to get hit

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The last thing a coach wants to see is his starting quarterback take a hit, but that's the first thing on the wishlist of Notre Dame's Brandon Wimbush.

"I do (miss getting hit)," Wimbush told Tyler James of the South Bend Tribune, noting he missed the physicality of the game while serving as a reserve over the last two years. "You do after a while. You're like, 'I haven't played football in a while, so let me get touched up a little bit.'"

Wimbush is set to take over starting duties this season following the losses of DeShone Kizer to the NFL and Malik Zaire to Florida as a graduate transfer, respectively. Notre Dame's pass-rushers have gotten up close and personal to Wimbush in practice, but haven't been allowed to deliver any blows on the pivot.

Wimbush, a junior, will presumably get his wish to get hit granted Sept. 2, when the Irish take on Temple to open the campaign.
