Mahrez eager to discuss terms with Roma

Riyad Mahrez would relish the opportunity to speak with Roma, but won't do so until Leicester City gives him the green light.

The tricky Algerian, who handed in a transfer request in May, told the Foxes "now is the time to move on."

Leicester has already rejected two offers from the Italian club, with a third bid of around €35 million submitted earlier this week, according to Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio.

Arsenal, which has routinely been linked with Mahrez, has yet to lodge an official offer.

Leicester is reportedly holding out for a €55.8-million fee.

"I know Roma came in, but nothing was accepted so there is little I can do. They are a great club who I would like to talk to but I can't until Leicester accept a deal," the 26-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"Leicester know my thoughts, but I will continue to give my best for the club as I always have.

"Clearly, it is flattering whenever you get linked with any big clubs, but as it stands, I have not talked to anyone as nobody has had a bid accepted. But we nearly have a month left of the transfer window, so we will see what happens."

Mahrez decided to stay put last summer after launching Leicester to the summit of the Premier League. Unfortunately, he couldn't replicate the form that won him Player of the Year honours, amassing just six goals and three assists during an underwhelming 2016-17 campaign.

Roma could use someone like Mahrez after selling Mohamed Salah to Liverpool. Much like the Egyptian winger, Mahrez has the pace and footwork to bamboozle defenders, and could wreak havoc in the slower Serie A.
