Florida State's Phillips suspended indefinitely after 5 felony charges laid

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Florida State receiver Da'Vante Phillips has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with five felonies, head coach Jimbo Fisher announced Friday.

According to court records obtained by Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times, Phillips is facing four charges related to cashing/depositing a bank item with intent to defraud, as well as grand theft.

Phillips is a former four-star recruit, who was ranked 44th on the ESPN 300 and the sixth-best receiver of the 2015 class. The junior's been used sparingly in the Seminole offense thus far in his career, posting only five career catches for 30 yards.

It remains to be seen if Phillips misses any game time or is eventually dismissed, as Florida State opens its season with a critical clash against Alabama on Sept. 2.
