Playoff percentages: Red Sox drop Orioles to brink of elimination

Through the remainder of the regular season, we'll take a look at how the night's action impacted the playoff races, highlighting which teams' postseason odds went up or down significantly.

The Minnesota Twins entered one of the most important series of their season on Monday when they visited Aaron Judge and the Yankees in New York to begin a three-game set.

Backed by Judge's 44th home run of the campaign, the Yankees lowered the Twins' chances of making the postseason, but weren't able to make up ground for top spot in the American League East, as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles in 11 innings to maintain their three-game lead.

Boston's win almost assuredly means the Orioles won't be a playoff team, as their chances of qualifying dropped to a meager 0.3 percent.

In the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers made up ground on the Chicago Cubs (3.5 games back in NL Central) and Colorado Rockies (two games back in wild card) by shutting out the Pittsburgh Pirates. Milwaukee has 10 games left to try to sneak into the postseason.
