Houston Nutt wants more than an apology from Ole Miss

At first, all Houston Nutt wanted from his former employer was an apology, but now that list of demands may have grown to include something further.

Ole Miss has yet to satisfy Nutt's demand for a public apology for alleged false information spread about him in January 2016, and Nutt's attorney, Thomas Mars, told Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports that his client will now be seeking further compensation.

Mars also told Antonio Morales of The Clarion Ledger that the amount of compensation that would satisfy his client would have to be on par with the evidence their case has brought to light in the matter.

"It's difficult to answer that question without knowing when that might happen, if ever, and what other significant evidence we'll develop in the meantime," Mars said. "Just in the past few weeks, for instance, we unexpectedly uncovered some very relevant and helpful evidence that we weren't even looking for at the time.

"That information, and any other new evidence we find, would factor into our calculations of what we'd consider reasonable compensation for Coach Nutt."

Part of the evidence that Mars alludes to in his comments is the phone call that was unearthed on former head coach Hugh Freeze's cell phone that ultimately led to his resignation.

Alice Clark, vice chancellor of university relations at Ole Miss, adamantly professed the school's innocence in the matter, saying Ole Miss has no reason to apologize to Nutt.

"Generally, in legal proceedings, the University of Mississippi allows its formal court filings to speak on its behalf," Clark said. "But to be clear, this case has no merit, and there is no reason to apologize. Further, it is clear Mr. Nutt’s suit seeks far more than an apology."
