Indians place Miller, Salazar on DL

The Cleveland Indians' red-hot pitching staff suffered two major blows Tuesday, with All-Star reliever Andrew Miller and right-hander Danny Salazar both landing on the 10-day disabled list.

Miller, who had just returned from the disabled list Friday after missing more than two weeks with patella tendinitis, aggravated his knee injury during Monday's 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox, while Salazar has been sidelined due to inflammation in his right elbow, the team announced.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the Indians recalled right-hander Shawn Armstrong and third baseman Yandy Diaz from Triple-A Columbus.

Miller, a two-time All-Star, has dominated once again this season, authoring a 1.65 ERA and 0.79 WHIP across 48 appearances while limiting opponents to a career-best .139 batting average. Still, the Indians' bullpen didn't suffer at all during his previous stint on the DL, as their relief corps owns a combined 2.27 ERA over the last two weeks, the third best-mark in the American League during that span.

Salazar, meanwhile, had been cruising of late until his most recent start, posting a 1.39 ERA and 38 percent strikeout rate over his previous five outings before taking the mound Sunday in Kansas City. Against the Royals, the 27-year-old imploded, allowing a season-high six earned runs on 12 hits and lasting just 4 2/3 innings in a 7-4 loss.
