Alabama defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand was arrested Saturday morning for DUI, records at the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office show.

The news was first reported by Aaron Suttles of Tide Sports.

Once a five-star recruit, Hand has yet to live up to the potential many saw in him when he landed at Alabama out of high school, though he's likely to move into the starting lineup as a senior. The Woodbridge, Va., native recorded 21 tackles and two sacks last season, serving as a valuable rotation player on the Crimson Tide's vaunted defensive line.

Alabama opens the season with a massive tilt versus Florida State, meaning all eyes will turn to coach Nick Saban and how he disciplines his veteran defender.

"This type of behavior is not acceptable and we are disappointed in Da'Shawn's actions," Saban stated after the arrest, according to Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News. "We are still gathering information and will evaluate what we need to do in terms of appropriate discipline as we move forward so better choices and decisions can be made in the future."

Last offseason, star left tackle Cam Robinson was arrested on weapons and drug charges, but Saban handled his discipline internally rather than benching him for the first game against USC. Robinson ultimately avoided prosecution.
