Coastal Carolina's Joe Moglia to miss 2017 season for health reasons
Coastal Carolina head coach Joe Moglia will miss the 2017 season due to health issues, he told Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.
The 68-year-old suffers from bronchial asthmatic reactions to allergies and his doctors believe time off will help. Moglia expects to return to the sideline for the following season.
"My full intent is to be back and ready to go when the season is over," Moglia said.
Moglia enjoyed a lucrative business career until 2008, when he left Ameritrade and returned to coaching. Since joining Coastal Carolina in 2012, Moglia has guided the program to an impressive 51-15 record and a promotion to the FBS this year.
"Aside from this being a smart and prudent decision about his long-term health, I think we see from this another example of what makes Joe such a unique, extraordinary person," Coastal Carolina athletic director Matt Hogue said.
"He is gifted with an ability to evaluate situations and make decisions from a perspective most people don’t see. He’s an ahead of the curve person and that is a major factor here. This level of proactivity will position him to return and lead our program to many more successes."
Chanticleers offensive coordinator Jamey Chadwell will take over head coaching duties on an interim basis.
